Essential oils are aromatic liquids made of the very vital fluids of plants, essentially, their "life-blood", the parts necessary for plants to "live". This essence is where the healing power of these plants come from. The oils are made of teeny, tiny molecules (there are trillions of molecules in one single drop of essential oil) that are capable of easily entering our body through the skin or lungs and reaching every cell, and are therefore therapeutic at the deepest levels of the mind and body. Essential oils are composed of numerous compounds (hundreds of them in one single oil). Some of these compounds are aldehydes, esters, ketones, phenols, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and others. The complex mixture of these compounds is what makes essential oils such effective healing agents and gives them their many therapeutic properties. These oils help to promote health, healing and well-being by their ability to deliver oxygen to the cells, create an environment in the body whereviruses and bacteria can not thrive, relieve inflammation &pain, enhance energy &mood, calm and relax the mind and body, and erase or deprogram mis-written information in the cellular memory or DNA. (and these are just a few of the wonderful effects of essential oils!) Most essential oils contain many antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory & antiseptic properties (among others). They also have both physical healing aspects along with mental/emotional/spiritual aspects. All of these properties vary with each particular oil, but they all have a healing effect. They can be used to address a wide range of symptoms and conditions.
How do they work with our emotions?
One of the ways essential oils work on our emotions is through our olfactory system (sense of smell) which is directly connected to the limbic system of the brain. The limbic area is the emotional center of the brain. The oils penetrate the amygdala, which is is where emotional trauma is stored (and released from). The sesquiterpenes in the oils are capable of penetrating the blood-brain barrier and have an oxygenating effect on the brain. The combination of oxygen and the effects of the aromatic molecules assists in the release of stored / trapped emotions. They also penetrate the hippocampus, which is linked to memories, and the pineal gland, which is associated with spiritual awareness and development. This makes essential oils the perfect vehicle to assist us in developing our spiritual lives and in working through and releasing traumas & negative, difficult emotions, both surface emotions and also those buried deep within us that we have suppressed, forgotten, and may not even be aware of. These "stuck" emotional energies may be creating health issues and holding us back in our lives. By clearing them, we clear the way for better health, well-being and reaching our truest and highest potential. Essential oils also help to keep stress and anxiety from being stored in the DNA by calming and relaxing the central nervous system. The molecular structure of the oils assures that they get exactly where needed, releasing traumas & trapped emotions from the various organs and tissues of the body, right down to the cellular level.
